Destination: Madurai – Rameshwaram – Madurai
Overview
Rameswaram is a picturesque municipality situated in the Ramanathapuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the renowned Pamban Island, which is separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is approximately 40 kilometers away from Mannar, Sri Lanka. Often referred to as RAMESWARAM Island, it is linked to the Indian mainland by the iconic Pamban Bridge.
Rameswaram holds immense significance in Hinduism and is considered one of the holiest places for devotees. It is an integral part of the Char Dham pilgrimage, a sacred journey that devout Hindus aspire to undertake. The roots of Rameswaram’s sanctity can be traced back to the epic Ramayana, where Lord Rama is believed to have built the mythical Rama Sethu (also known as Adam’s Bridge) to rescue his beloved wife, Sita Mata, from the clutches of the demon king Ravana.
